Road to Success

Welcome to episode 10 of the Make it Matter Podcast – today we talk about what happens when something goes wrong, and how dealing with it the right way can change everything.

I know you wish every interaction with a customer or a client could be perfect, but that’s not reality.  The big question is: what happens next?  How you handle it could make all the difference.

Success in business is NOT about avoiding mistakes – it’s the grace that follows. Will you be petty and defensive, or will your kind response end up being what the customer remembers most?

So, just to sum up our episode, here are the 3 things that we hope you can get out of this:

So our hope for you and your business is that you not try to cover up your mistakes and be seen as this flawless, perfect, and beautifully run business…but be more real and authentic by exposing your mistakes and make it right by turning it into a positive.

Pivot

Posted byPivot, PodcastTagged pivot, podcastNo Comments

Welcome to episode 9 of the Make it Matter Podcast – today we’re back (finally!) to talk about “Pivoting” – an extremely important concept as we navigate this year.

Pivot is our word for 2020 – a reminder that we have to be adaptable, and willing to make the major shifts in order to keep moving forward.

Obviously, this has been one of the most challenging years in history. BUT hopefully, that also brings some opportunity for some much-needed adjustments. Most of us don’t change until we have to; now, we have to. What are some pivots you can make?

But before we go on, here’s a quick, inspiring video on pivoting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n67RYI_0sc0

Listen as Hanju share’s his own pivot story from a background in corporate that led to the birth of BOS Media Group and also Bru’s early in marriage story when Jill asked, “is this it?” Scary question, but led to a new world of traveling/friends (sometimes I think, if we had our wedding over, 95% of the guests change)

What about YOUR Pivot? What advice do we have for people navigating change? Ask yourself this, “If this time was perfect, what would it be perfect for?”

Give and Take

Do you ever think about the hierarchy of success and see what the secret ingredients are to achieve it? Well, here are the obvious 3.

  • Hard work
  • Talent
  • Luck/Fate/Divine Appointments

But, there is the 4th ingredient – our success depends heavily on how you approach your interactions with other people. You have a choice in every interaction…do you try to claim value as much as you can from that person or do you try to contribute value to that person without worrying about what you receive in return.

Are you a giver? Or are you a taker? Listen to our latest podcast episode of Make it Matter to find out who you are and what you can do to shift your thinking for success.

The One Where We Get in a Fight with Another Podcast

The fight is on.

We’re not going to name names, but it all started when I was listening to another podcast and they said they HATE when business owners talk about people they work with as “family” – they claim your one responsibility to co-workers is to grow your business because everyone wins when you make a profit.

Today we will present our counterpoint to people who believe that work relationships shouldn’t be family, and argue that actually that position is what’s wrong with American business today.

If treating people like family is wrong, we don’t wanna be right!

You Are More Than a Brand

“So, what’s your story?”

That might be the most important question for business owners and entrepreneurs to answer. It will help you set priorities, give customers a clear understanding of your identity, and when you feel lost, it will be the North Star to guide you home.

Remember that you are the writer here. You can decide to what parts of the story to give weight to, and the moments you want to highlight. However, don’t feel like you need to hide the difficult parts – every great story has conflict, and people connect with you based on the challenges you’ve overcome, as long as you’re able to connect the dots clearly.

Your story matters. The good and the bad, the changes and the core level non-negotiables that you are willing to fight for. Don’t just go to work and do your job day after day – remember who you are! The more you stay aligned to that, the more other people will be inspired to join in and do business with you.

Be More Human

Have you ever heard this saying? “Hey, it’s nothing personal, it’s just business.”

Well, let’s start by saying, at BOS Media Group, we believe everything is personal. Famous quote by Meg Ryan in the movie You Got Mail, she states, “whatever else anything is, it ought to begin by being personal.” I believe that’s what differentiates us, and we love this. And what a great topic to start off our very first episode of our podcast. That’s right, our podcast. We are calling it Make It Matter. Why that title for a marketing agency podcast? Because, we believe that for entrepreneurs and business owners like you, what we do is much more than a daily grind. Our goal through this podcast is to give you strategies that will allow your work to have more impact and meaning. And we want to give you resources to help you share your story with the world.

In this first episode of Make it Matter, we will introduce you to who we are and will help you understand some of the relational aspects of the business.

We truly believe that business is personal. The more human you are, the better for your business. Bots and algorithms will never be able to match real human connection – let that be the heart of what you bring to your work.

You can listen to our episode directly from here.

Bottom line: BOS Media is here to make you more human:

  • More human type of content
  • More human connection to everyone you work with
  • More human way of treating customers

Hope you enjoy our podcast. If you are a normal podcaster, you can find us here. Please subscribe and share.  Thanks so much!!

Who Do You Listen To?

As a new Entrepreneur, I am constantly seeking wisdom and inspiration from others who share their stories of failures, triumphs and “AHA” moments that re-shapes and/or launches their business to a new level. It has become my daily ritual to carve out some time to listen to podcasts, watch videos and read blogs to educate, feed my inspiration and to create aha moments of my own. These are my top 6 that I listen to and why:

1. Pat Flynn: He shares his strategies on his successful online business and he interviews entrepreneur guests to teach marketing techniques that helped them grow their business. Very insightful and Pat is very genuine and real. I have implemented more ideas from listening to Pat then anyone else. This is my favorite Podcast.

2. John Lee Dumas: He interviews one entrepreneur per day, 7 days a week. He asks the same questions in a same tone with the same emphasis on the same syllable…hahaha! However, there’s something to be said for consistency, because the interviewee is usually very prepared to answer each question. I actually like it because the questions still leads to helping the interviewee share their story of their success, failures and aha moments.

3. Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders: This is a recorded seminar series on entrepreneurship at the Stanford University. Guest speakers are crazy brilliant and have accomplished much. This fascinates and inspires me the most as the guests have taken it to a whole another level.

4. Michael Hyatt: He coaches and teaches on intentional leadership. He has great wisdom on business but he focuses on the heart issues of entrepreneurship and life. This helps me put things into perspective and helps me see the bigger picture.

5. Tim Ferriss: He’s the author of the book The 4 Hour Workweek. He has high-profile guests and interesting topics such as…”Getting Punched and Picking Winners” You just have to listen to figure it out.

6. Brendon Burchard: He’s a Motivational Speaker/Personal Development Trainer. He also teaches business marketing and helps teach pqeople how to grow their business. The content that he puts out there is excellent.

Hope you can find these resources helpful. Comment below to share with us who you listen to.
